The winners of the 2018 Ideas Contest have been announced
On June 19, 2018, the most original business ideas and groundbreaking research findings from the Rostock Research Area were honored as part of the “inspired” ideas competition. The goal of the competition is to identify innovative technologies and ideas at the University of Rostock and research institutions in the Rostock region and to support them not only with financial resources but also with valuable contacts, intensive coaching, and important practical insights.
The competition finalists presented their ideas in exactly 30 seconds and impressed the audience with their creativity and ingenuity. The top three teams in the “Students” and “Researchers & Graduates” categories will receive prize money and awards totaling 10,000 euros, sponsored by companies in the region. These include special prizes in the areas of app development, digital innovation and process optimization, healthcare/life sciences, and innovative products, each worth 1,000 euros.
Award Recipients in the “Researchers & Graduates” Category
With impressive achievements in science and research, the following teams stood out this year in the “Researchers & Graduates” category:
1st Place: „Ayokie“- Benjamin Reif and Kristina Zlatina
2nd Place: „ComBioCryst“ - Jan von Langermann and Erlencamp, Dr. Ulf Menyes, Dennis Hülsewede and Philipp Süss
3rd Place: „Persönlicher Intelligenter Assistent (PIA)“ - Martin Adam, Dr. Kristina Yordanova, Sumaiya Suravee, Dipendra Yadav, Frederic Conan Widaya and Ifran Fachrudin Priyanta
Winners in the “Students” Category
With exceptional creativity and ingenuity, these teams from the University of Rostock impressed the jury in the “Students” category:
1st Place: „Karteikartensystem“ - Philipp Schweers, Michel Bornemann, Fenja Habelmann, Julia Hallab and Stefan Schomacker
2nd Place: „Intonationstrainer“ - Martin Blum
3rd Place: „Eiskanne“ - Rico Thum, Nora Jannsen, Malte Keuneke and Henning Lange
The Award-Winning Ideas in the 2018 Special Categories
Special Award for “Healthcare & Life Sciences”
Maik Getzkow, a student from Rostock, received the “Special Award for Healthcare Industry”—sponsored by BioCon Valley Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V.—for his idea “Liver Spot.”
Special Award for “App Development”
Danny Süßmilch received the Special Award for “App Development” for “MyTravel.” The criteria included the uniqueness, potential, and feasibility of the idea. The special award was sponsored by InnoMobile GmbH.
Special Award for “Innovative Products”
The Special Prize for “Innovative Products” was awarded to university researchers and graduates Mathias Malischewski, Steffen Fiedler, Chris Brockmann, and Sesha Narayanan Chithathrveeralli Govindan for their “Eco Wellness Shower,” recognized as the best product idea. The prize was sponsored by DS Produkte GmbH.
Special Award for “Digital Innovation & Process Optimization”
The special prize for “Digital Innovation & Process Optimization,” sponsored by LIMES Solutions GmbH, was awarded to the team led by Martin Adam for their idea “Personal Intelligent Assistant – PIA.”
